The Sixties were a turning point for protest and change. Opposition to the Vietnam war and the introduction of conscription were catalysts but protests grew to include Aboriginal Land Rights, Women’s Liberation, Gay Liberation and anti-apartheid demonstrations.

In Radicals many of those who were active at the time (roughly 1965 – 1975), including Meredith Burgmann and Nadia Wheatley, David Marr, Margret RoadKnight, Gary Foley, Jozefa Sobski, Geoffrey Robertson, Peter Manning, Gary Williams and Vivienne Binns, reflect on their involvement in these protests and how the decade changed them and Australian society.
Radicals – Remembering the Sixties also looks at how these past struggles are both similar and different to protests of the present.

Kate Forsyth and Belinda Murrell are sisters who joined forces to investigate the story of Charlotte Waring Atkinson, their great-great-great-great-grandmother, the writer of Australia’s first book for children published in 1841. A fascinating hybrid, Searching for Charlotte is a biography of Charlotte, the story of Belinda and Kate’s journey of discovery to find out about the life of this courageous woman who came to Australia in 1826, as well as being an exploration of family history and family myths.

Date:  Tuesday 9 March
Time: 6pm AEDT for 6.30pm start. Interview finishes at 7.30 pm and the evening concludes at 8.00pm
Location: Level 4, 179 Elizabeth Street; and by Zoom
